Anonymous asked: Whenever I avoid a panic attack I get depressed and I talked to my therapist and he said to smile before I get depressed so I can "fake it till I make it" but I never catch it soon enough and then it's too late and I can't make myself smile or move

Thats pretty awful advice to ‘fake it till you make it’ if you ask me.. Try to take little steps to help you on the way. Take time to loo after yourself. Your mental health comes first okay? Here are some great ways I find help me when I’m feeling bad:

• distract yourself, whether its by drawing, reading, exercising or writing.
• an amazing way that helps me is by playing a game in my head. Like I try and think of as many girl names as possible beginning with a certain letter. It can be either gender so for example if I pick male and the letter M, there could be Matthew, Mark or Martin. Its surprisingly hard in the moment.
• If you have an elastic band or hair band on your wrist, ping yourself with it and the slight sting takes your mind off the panic without causing long term damage.
• breathing techniques are great or even a paper bag if you’re okay doing that in public.
• chewing gum funnily enough gives me something to do.
• stress balls or stress toys like things you can fiddle with, twist ect.
• having someone you can call to talk to and take your mind off it.
• there are herbal stress/anxiety oral sprays you can get over the counter from brands like Bach. They’re 100% natural and can (not always) just get you back on track :)

In the long run meditation, diet, exercise and lifestyle all effect anxiety levels.

And maybe ask for a new counsellor if he’s not understanding you x

Anonymous asked: My dad keeps bringing up how nervous I am and that I can't talk to people in a shop or eat in public and that I get so embarrassed..I can't explain to him how much all of that terrifies me. I have such bad panic attacks and he doesn't understand! I feel like a failure and a stupid nervous wreck:( :(

Parents often find it hard to understand at first. Give him time and patience even when its hard, parents often refuse to listen or believe news like this because they want the best for their kids. Even though it may not make sense to ignore it, thats the easiest way to make the issue ‘disappear’. My Dad was the same, but honestly - it gets easier. Keep you cool when possible and stay strong x

anxiety is terrible, you could be having an attack and no one would even know because it’s an inward thing. it feels like you’re malfunctioning and you can’t process your own thoughts. you get a knot in your stomach and you can’t take a full breath but outwardly you can literally just sit there and look completely normal as long as no one tries to speak to you.

Anonymous asked: Have you heard of anxiety causing balance issues (even during calm periods)? Also can you have anxiety without feeling anxious or depressed?

anxietysurvivor:

Yes, I get really bad balance issues just walking. For me it feels like I’m walking on an uneven platform and I’m about to fall. My doctor said it related to the anxiety but it’s good to get it confirmed. Yes you can have anxiety in normal situations. Even if you don’t have an anxiety disorder or depression you can get anxiety.

jilly-beans-fitness asked: I have really bad arachnophobia. I haven't seen a spider in a week, but the last time I saw one I needed to take sleeping pills to calm down. I don't know what to do. I'm still checking corners and walls everywhere I go.

Okay well I don’t have arachnophobia, so I just quickly researched support for the fear side of the trait. However if there is a psychological element to the fear that you want to solve then I’d suggest seeing your doctor.

These are just from the top of the Google search I did:

1. Chart memories or imagined scenarios involving spiders in a journal. Rank these scenarios from least to most frightening. Try to conquer each imagined scenario on the list. Beginning with the easiest heightens chances of success.

2. Learn what you can about spiders. Perhaps for some people, knowing how to tell dangerous spiders from non-threatening spiders can replenish a sense of control the person with arachnophobia has been robbed of.

3. Consider talking to a professional about behavioral therapy. Most commonly used is the aversion method, where the patient is presented with the object that causes irrational fear (in this case a spider). The patient is taught to confront the fear and gradually works toward the object until the fear is eradicated.

4. Ask your doctor about the various anxiety medications most recommended for people suffering from phobias. See which one, if any, would be right for you.

As well as those, there are sprays that you can get to get rid of them –when I was younger my Dad told me that conkers were a spiders worst nightmare. So I collected around thirty from across the round under the tree and put them all over my room and on my bed post. I don’t know whether what he said was true, but I slept so well with the comfort of that knowledge. Maybe the spray – or even conkers could do that for you?
